Response to change

The informatics nurse (INS) is a new specialty for nursing
Nursing lnformatics is a response to the changes occurring in nursing and IT. Supporting disciplines include computer science, psychology, organizational science, engineering, library science, information management, communication theory, decision science, etc. New practitioners in this field are being referred to by the ANA as Informatics Nurse Specialists (INS). The discipline's first certification exam was available from ANCC in the fall of 1995 and there are now (12/99) 293 nurses certified in Informatics. [Top]

"good" INS
  1. Understanding of, and commitment to, the organization.
  2. People and interpersonal skills.
  3. Conceptual skills and the ability to grasp the "big picture."
