The Council

The Council on Nursing Informatics (CoNI) The ANA identified nursing informatics as an area of specialty practice. In 1995 ANA published the Standards of Practice for Nursing Informatics. In May 1993, NCNA approved forming a Council on Nursing Informatics (CoNI) within the North Carolina State organization.

The members of CoNI believe that this specialty is helping to shape the future of nursing and patient care. Health care informatics and its inherent technologies must be developed with the input of nurses. And, nurses must be knowledgeable consumers to provide this future direction. To promote this knowledge acquisition, the Council offers these documents as a starting point. [Top]

The first edition of this resource was developed by CoNI to provide nurses with some available informatics resources. Effort was made to gather content from various sources to serve as a starting point for further knowledge development in the discipline. This second publication continues the traditions and purposes of its predecessor.
