Geography 4102/5102: CARTOGRAPHIC DESIGN

Course Objectives

The objective of this course is for students to synthesize all previously learned theories, concepts and skills in cartography through the design and production of a professional quality color map project. Students will select and research their own topic, then design and produce the map on Adobe Illustrator. Project guidelines will be given in the first class meeting. Students will work closely with the instructor throughout the semester. Final projects will be entered into the American Congress on Surveying and Mapping Student Map Competition for 2000. Students may also wish to enter their project into the National Geographic Society Student Map Competition for the 2000 AAG meeting in Pittsburgh.

Geog. 2100: Maps & Graphs, Geog. 2101: Cartography Lab, and Geog. 4101/5101: Cartographic Techniques, are prerequisites for this course.
