The project for Spring, 1999 was to a create color climatic
map with complex layers of polygons. The area to be mapped was selected
by individual students. The map areas include Australia, Canada, and South
America. The project involved tracing from a source map onto a base with
a different projection, scanning the tracing, using that scanned map as
a template for intricate tracing of different relief layers in Adobe Illustrator,
relevant color selection, scanning and importing a photograph of a relevant
scene, completing other design elements, producing a color print, and carrying
out the necessary conversions for publishing on the web. Students used
Adobe Illustrator 7.0 for map production and Photoshop 4.0 to prepare scanned
images for importing into Adobe Illustrator and onto the web. Their web
pages were created in Netscape Composer 4.0.
