The Cartography Lab provides detailed, hands-on experience with the theories and concepts that are covered in the Maps and Graphs course (Geography 2100). This course is required of all geography majors and must be taken simultaneously with Maps and Graphs. Exercises are devised to help the student understand basic cartographic skills, including map scale and scale change, generalization, large scale map compilation, and map projections. The student will also have the opportunity to construct selected thematic maps using Adobe Illustrator for the Macintosh, to make a web page with Netscape Composer, and to create graphs using Microsoft Excel. The course is based entirely on practical exercises and class participation.
