Geography 2100: MAPS & GRAPHS

Course Objectives

This course is designed to introduce the basic concepts and techniques involved in the graphic and cartographic representation of geographic information. The course is a requirement of all students majoring in Geography. It is a prerequisite to Geog. 4101: Cartographic Techniques, and Geog. 4110: Computer Mapping. It is also a useful elective course for any subject area that uses maps. Students must be concurrently enrolled in Geog. 2101: Cartography Lab as the lab work reinforces the concepts and exercises carried out in Maps & Graphs.

There are four main components to the course: Large Scale Mapping, Small Scale Thematic Mapping, Graphic Publication on the Web, and Graphing. The course emphasizes theory and concepts. Hands-on mapping, graphing, and web page design are carried out  in Geog. 2101: Cartography Lab.
