The
Story of Wicked Tim
|
Here is a bit about the making of this digitized version (from my new weblog: judithsviews).
Harry Rountree "was born in Auckland, New Zealand in 1878 and was educated at Queen's College, Aukland. He came to London in 1901 and studied with Percival Gaskell a the Regent Street Polytechnic before getting commissions through the editor of Little Folks. Rountree's metier was always comic animals and books for children although he undertook a certain amount of poster work. His drawings are characterized by subtle colours and fluid washes with a great accuracy of natural background." From: Houfe, Simon. The Dictionary of 19th Century British Book Illustrators and Caricaturists: Woodbridge, Antique Collectors Club, 1996. p. 284-285.
Rountree is also noted for his illustrations of British Golf Courses & golfing caricatures.
