Cancer

A personal note: Several of my own dogs (The Multitudes) have had cancer. Jamie and Boris (German Shorthaired Pointers) both had more than five years of chemotherapy for lymphosarcoma. The dogs remained in remission until their deaths at age 11 and 13 1/2 respectively. It would be wonderful to think that something positive could come from their (and my) ordeal with this disease which seems to affect so many canine (and other animal) friends.

Canine Cancer - Cancer Registry You may be able to help. The "University of Missouri is engaged in a 2-year pilot program. Stop the Crop - According to the AVMA's position with regard to ear cropping and tail docking, adopted on July 9,1999: "Ear cropping and tail docking in dogs for cosmetic reasons are not medically indicated nor of benefit to the patient. These procedures cause pain and distress, and, as with all surgical procedures, are accompanied by inherent risks of anesthesia, blood loss, and infection. Therefore, veterinarians should counsel dog owners about these matters before agreeing to perform these surgeries." Go to this site to learn more.
