National Clubs which do not make an effort to link to or support rescue, in my opinion, need to change their ways.

Many beautiful pure and mixed breed dogs are in animal shelters, breed rescue programs and humane societies all over the United States.

Painting of Scotch Collie
Collie Dog painted by Edwin Douglas (1849-1914) about this artist. Don't go off and get lost, but this is worth a visit - many dog portraits.

This is my Laura Collie. She is fourteen years old now and has become mostly deaf. She still needs to be brushed on a regular basis and still doesn't stand still.

She is both a collie and a retriever in behavior. I adopted her from the Charlotte Mecklenburg Animal Control facility about 13 1/2 years ago.  She herds her kennel mates Shirley and now Jack, the German Shorthaired Pointer.

LauraCollie - a rescue from Charlotte Mecklenburg animal shelter

She recently attended an "adoptathon" with me. Not to be adopted, but to draw crowds because she is very beautiful, loves all people, children and other dogs - a great rep for a mixed breed rescue. I also needed to brush her - doggie shedding season is upon us. Brushing Laura looked like so much fun that at one point she had two adults and two children all working on her at once - the Tom Sawyer effect (If you haven't ever read this book, Tom makes painting a fence seem like so much fun that all of his friends want to help). Next time you need to brush out your collie or shepherd, go to an event with children. Take several brushes...
