N.C. Law Allows Group to Sue over Alleged Dog Abuse - first aired on 5/25/05. Leaders of a California animal rights group have traveled to North Carolina to take advantage of a state law allowing civil suits for animal abuse cases. The group is suing breeders it says are mistreating dogs. Leoneda Inge of member station WUNC reports. More on this story.

Former Cop Turns Pet Detective to Track Lost Pets (20 minutes) with Terry Gross
Fresh Air from WHYY, April 22, 2005 · Kathy Albrecht is a former police officer who used to work with search and rescue dogs. She now searches for lost pets using her specially trained bloodhounds, and a Weimeraner. Along the way she is developing data about how lost animals behave, and how to best find them.
Albrecht also founded and is executive director of the non-profit National Center for Missing Pets in San Jose, CA. (This story was originally broadcast on May 24, 2004.)
