We challenge you to look at the numbers and compare to other Wintel companies...

There is plenty of software available for the Mac (how many word processors do you need?)

The Mac can run Windows 95 and 98 as fast and faster than most Intel/Pentium based machines (try Virtual PC from Connectix on a Mac and you'll be convinced!).

Most people can work on and customize their Macs.

Most programs are cross-platform, nowadays. (And for those that aren't, you can use Virtual PC.)

Any many other reasons.....

Which computer should I buy?

-
Surprisingly, we believe that you should use whichever platform you are most productive on. However, you should buy the same computer that your primary computer support person uses. If you are going to depend on your friend, spouse, father, mother, or whomever for help with your computer, you should buy the platform that they are familiar with. If you are one of those sorts who is going to depend on yourself to figure things out, go with a Mac! But by all means, get informed about the different computers (a good deal is not always a good deal). Don't count on that salesperson to be the best resource for computer information. Here are some decent web sites where you can get more info:

http://macopinion.com/columns/macskeptic/99/08/11.html

http://www2.apple.com/whymac/ggstudy.html

http://www2.apple.com/whymac/

http://http://mactrack.com/

Plus, an interesting site by a popular radio show that uses Macs exclusively: http://www.thebigshow.com/home.html

Additionally, I'd always recommend that you buy the "most" computer you can afford. It is a fact of the technology revolution that within six months, your machine will no longer be the "best". However, if you've bought the "fastest, biggest" machine you possible can, you have a better chance of using the machine for a longer period of time before it is truly obsolete.

Another thing to keep in mind: "Technology always keeps going forward. Waiting to buy a computer will just mean that you are waiting for obsolecence. You're going to buy a machine sooner or later. Sooner is better."

Back to Tim's homepage
